In general, we suggest that you label your camper's personal items. Labeling helps make sure that your camper's items get back to him/her in the event that it ends-up in lost and found. Please note that Chestnut Ridge is not responsible for personal property brought to camp.

What Every Camper Should Bring

Residential Campers

Weekday Campers

Camp clothes for the entire session, including the following:
-jeans or long pants
-a jacket or sweatshirt
-shorts
-short-sleeved shirts
-long-sleeved shirt
-socks
-underclothes
-pajamas
-hat or sun visor
A Bible
Sleeping bag
Bed linens & blanket (twin size) if not using sleeping bag
Pillow
Towels, washcloth, soap, shampoo
Toothbrush, toothpaste, floss
Comb/brush
Insect repellent
Sunscreen
A modest swimsuit (two if possible)
Tennis shoes
Comfortable hiking shoes
Sandals are permissible unless your program major specifies otherwise. Sandals need to be sturdy, athletic sandals that strap around the ankle. Flip flops are allowed only at the pool.
Raincoat, parka, or poncho Water bottles or canteens
Flashlight or headlamp and batteries
Completed Health Forms
Prescribed medications (if any) along with written directions from a doctor for administration

Optional Items -
Mountain bike & bike helmet
Fishing Pole
Sleeping pad (for camp out night)
Notebook and pencil/pen
A book to read
Rain pants

Wear camp clothes for the day (comfortable clothes that can get dirty)
Change of clothes, including extra shoes, in your backpack
A Bible (optional - we have many!)
A towel for the pool
Sunscreen

What Every Camper Should Leave at Home

rock_climbing2In order to protect the atmosphere of camp and provide a true outdoor camp experience, please leave the following at home:

  • Alcohol and drugs
  • Personal sports equipment except as noted above (Chestnut Ridge is not responsible for any personal sports equipment brought to camp)
  • Animals of any kind
  • Weapons of any kind
  • Cell phones
  • Radios
  • CD players
  • iPods
  • TV’s
  • DVD players
  • Video games
  • Trading cards
  • Expensive cameras
  • Cash
  • Food. Food in the cabins attracts rodents and insects. A balanced selection of foods is provided at each meal. Snacks are provided as part of the camp program.

Mudpuppy, Waterdog, or Duskie Camp

  • No special equipment needed

Trail Horseback Riding

  • Boots or hard soled shoes with a heel
  • Long pants

Wrangler Camp

  • Boots or hard soled shoes with a heel
  • Long pants
  • Work gloves
  • Rain gear
  • Portable sleeping bag and sleeping pad (Thermarest brand is great)
  • Flashlight or headlamp (bring extra batteries)
  • Don't forget water bottle, hat, insect repellent, sunscreen, rain gear, towel, and swimsuit.

Ultimate Mountain Adventure

  • Shoes that can be worn in water. Sandals that securely strap around the foot and heel are best. Can use old tennis shoes or water shoes.
  • Hiking boots with a lug sole and good support (recommended) or other type of trail shoe
  • Hiking socks (recommended)
  • Portable sleeping bag and sleeping pad (Thermarest brand is great)
  • Flashlight or headlamp (bring extra batteries)
  • long pants and long sleeves that can get very dirty (for caving)
  • Don't forget water bottle, hat, insect repellent, sunscreen, rain gear, towel, and swimsuit.

Canoe the New

  • Plenty of ziploc bags to store clothes in
  • Shoes that can be worn in water. Sandals that securely strap around the foot and heel are best. Can use old tennis shoes or water shoes.
  • A small backpack
  • Portable sleeping bag and sleeping pad (Thermarest brand is great)
  • Flashlight or headlamp (bring extra batteries)
  • Don't forget water bottle, hat, insect repellent, sunscreen, rain gear, towel, and swimsuit.

Rock and Raft

  • Loose-fitting, non-restrictive shorts and shirt for climbing.
  • Shoes that can be worn in water. Sandals that securely strap around the foot and heel are best. Can use old tennis shoes or water shoes.
  • Hiking boots with a lug sole and good support (recommended) or other type of trail shoe
  • Hiking socks (recommended)
  • A day pack (small backpack) (recommended)
  • Portable sleeping bag and sleeping pad (Thermarest brand is great)

Mountain Biking

  • Mountain bike and helmet.
  • Good shoes for mountain biking
