"I absolutely love to spend this week of my summer watching my children spend time with friends and families that have the same Christian values that we do. Camp Chestnut Ridge has a special place in our hearts; after our first summer, my children were baptized in the lake there. I can't express in words adequately how much all of the Chestnut Ridge family means to each of us." - Pam Prebula, Volunteer Camp Nurse
"Volunteering as the camp nurse at Chestnut Ridge is always a highlight of my summer. I look forward to meeting new campers and staff each year and reaquainting with old friends. Camp has become a true 'home away from home' for me and my family. The community and fellowship have been such a blessing to us!" - Jennifer Pepin, Volunteer Camp Nurse
Chestnut Ridge's summer camp program wouldn't be complete without our wonderful volunteer nurses. Each year, we seek out licensed registered nurses (or doctors, nurse practitioners) who are willing to volunteer as the Camp Nurse for a one week period (Sunday noon until Friday evening).
The Camp Nurse plays a critical role in the safety and success of the summer camp program. The Camp Nurse’s responsibilities entail:
Administration of over the counter and prescription medicines
- Stocking and maintenance of heath center inventory and general cleanliness of the health center
- Communicating with the camp physician when needed
- Receiving and checking health forms at registration, collecting medicines from campers, reporting special dietary needs to the kitchen staff, and informing other staff of any special medical needs of campers in their care
- Examining campers and staff with health related complaints, treating complaints according to the camp physician’s standing orders, and administering first aid
- Communicating with camp staff, notifying them of any potentially unhealthy or hazardous situation and communicating with parents as needed
- Logging every visit to the health center, processing insurance claims forms and accident reports
- Returning medication to parents at the end of each camp session
In return for providing these valuable services, Chestnut Ridge will provide:
Air-conditioned housing in an apartment on campus Delicious meals for the entire camp week Scholarships for up to two campers (K-11th grade) in either day or resident camp (campers must register online for camp; availability of all camps is first-come, first-serve) Children in your immediate family younger than kindergarten may come to camp with you provided you provide supervision for them at all times A cool camp t-shirt
If you are willing and able, we would like to talk with you!
