The Chestnut Ridge After School Program is an environment where children can enjoy natural fun and just be a kid. While time and space is provided for homework, there is also plenty of time for play and healthy interaction. We believe our students creativity is enhanced through a mix of structured activities and unstructured play.
Our after school students learn to entertain themselves without electronics. In exchange, they have the opportunity to enhance their self-esteem and social skills, increase personal responsibility, and develop good learning habits in a positive community.
We believe children need an after school environment that invites them to explore, create and experience the gifts of nurture and care. Our students are learning to live in Christian community as they learn by the example of our staff and through intentional activities. By coming together as a community after school each day, our students are learning through experience to put their faith into action.
Chestnut Ridge affords a special environment for our students. After being released from indoor classrooms, spending the afternoon outdoors provides many benefits.

Where were you doing on Valentine's Day? 46 of us celebrated at The Time to Play Retreat!
Amid mugs of coffee and hot chocolate, we gathered first in the chapel for our traditional morning prayer and the reading of our retreat's scripture verses from Ecclesiastes. The chorus frogs joined us in song and celebration of another day. From there, we filled our field with parents, children, neighbors, and friends while Jeana led us in group games. Children laughed as their parents played people-to people with them, got silly with "Over here!" and enacted some memorable scenes in charades. We learned Benjamin Sallard makes a convincing "Titanic" and Alia and Bill Riley know something about enacting a bull fight. Time to play together...a blessing to us all!

Imagine an outdoor space specially designed to engage the imagination of a child. What would it look like? What kinds of play would it invite? What sounds, smells and objects might you find?
We've set out to find the answers! Our mission is to connect adults and children in our community in a joint project to design the most awesome natural playground ever. We want to get connected to each other and to the the amazing outdoor environment at Chestnut Ridge. Together, we will design a 1/2 acre of land exclusively for play by children.
